Hot Tub Use In The Summer

When summer arrives, the hot tub is sometimes the last place people feel like spending their time. We are here to let you know that it can actually be a really cool place to spend your time!

Below are some tips on how to enjoy the heat of summer with a hot tub:

  • Drink, drink, drink! And we’re not referring to a cocktail or a beer. Make sure to stay hydrated with water. A chilled San Pellegrino is our favorite! Refrain from drinking alcohol until after you have soaked. Hot water intensifies the effects of alcohol and may cause overheating or drowsiness.
  • Keep glass and china away. Shatter-resistant cups and plates should be used for any drinks or snacks that are consumed in or around the hot tub. By using glass or china, you run the risk of it breaking and getting into the hot tub.
  • Cool down before you heat up. If you just got done exercising, make sure that your pulse returns to normal before entering the hot tub.
  • Long soaks in water that is too hot can lead to overheating and/or medical complications. During the summer months, maybe turn the temperature down to between 98-100 degrees. This temperature will leave you feeling refreshed, even during the hottest summer months.
  • A sudden change of temperature can cause light-headedness. Make sure to exit the hot tub slowly, carefully and gradually.
  • Don’t forget to protect your skin with sunscreen and protect your hair with a hat.
  • Respect electricity. Respect storms. Always use battery-operated appliances around the hot tub. Never use the hot tub before, during, or right after a thunderstorm. You run the risk of electrocution from lightning hitting the water.
  • Last but definitely not least, keep that water clean! Make sure the water is properly disinfected and cleared of any debris. Showering prior to getting into a hot tub will help keep the water clean.

We want you to make the most of your hot tub and the summer. If you have any questions about hot tub safety or the maintenance of your hot tub, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
